| Career Clinics | ||||||||||||||||||
| The Career Clinics were developed by Portia to help individuals re-assess career Attitudes, Aptitudes and Aspirations in order to improve their employability potential.
The basic premise of the support provided is that many individuals, and women in particular, do not follow a straight career pathway, with a standard entry point starting with a University degree and continuing through a series of advancements, building up a steady store of experience and a work record in a particular sector or a job role. Rather, women may GET INto a profession through a traditional or a less conventional route, GET ON for a while advancing within an employer organisation, but then GET OUT if, for example, family or caring responsibilities become too demanding, and GET BACK again, or try to do so when an opportunity arises. Many women leave paid employment during childcaring years and need both professional and personal support when returning. Portia's Career Clinics are designed to provide individuals with a focused and targeted assistance, involving a range of support tools and interventions, aimed at improving career self-efficacy skills. The methodology was successfully tested over a number of years, with over 120 women participating so far, whose backgrounds varied widely, who felt that their professional aspirations and re-engagement with the recruitment and labour markets would benefit from experienced coaching and counselling support.
